First of all, let me introduce myself and my company. My name is Davey, I’m bit of punk, bit of rock, bit of metal and all other stuff wrapped in a kind of geek-like shell. I’ve been alternative since childhood and got into photography (and cars and comics) about the same time. Rock’n’Rebel is my photography company based on the Bedfordshire/Cambridgeshire border and only a short distance from Hertfordshire too. We love the alternative lifestyle and that’s our niche.
What you’ll also find is I like to write. I can also talk as much as I can write and luckily (or unluckily) I can be just as communicative in both forms! All that’s left to say is that please bookmark Rock’n’Rebel Photography and visit often as new work will always be put up along with the occasional ramble from me.
All the best

So, it would appear it’s Zombie Awareness Month! What does mean to the not-so-average Joe like me? A thousand thoughts entered my head. Do we look after our ‘house’ zombies? Do we care for them a little more? Do we leave some meat out for the strays? Do we capture, neuter and return them to the wild? What about charity fund raisers? It would certainly make adverts more interesting on terrestrial t.v. and YouTube (and other media channels)
In Rock’n’Rebel’s early days we did a zombie and victim photo shoot and it had to be one of the most amazing and fun shoots we’ve ever done. There was fake blood everywhere after the shoot. It was up the walls, doors, windows, on the models, over the backdrop and it even got as far as going in my back garden. It looked like a b-movie set and it was fantastic! I think we need to do another zombie shoot and get the original gang back in to do it!!

Today marks the sad loss of a true icon and surrealist, H.R. Giger. May your work live on and inspire other artists throughout the decades. Your work and incredible talent will be missed. R.I.P.
Now on to the positive: What do we have planned for the remainder of this month?
Well, we have a shoot coming up with a fashion and marketing student (congratulations on completing your last exam, Alice!) where we’re going to pay homage to Audrey Hepburn and craft some simple black and white portrait shots. Simplicity is the name of the game here, so we’ll have simple lighting with soft shadows to really build atmosphere. The early Hollywood era is something I particularly enjoy and some of the photographers of that era are amazing. If you get a minute, look up Melbourne Spurr. He did a lot of work with the silent movie stars of the era and I certainly haven’t seen a picture from him!
We should also be working with Saints of The Undead Clothing later in the month. If bespoke/individually customised clothing is your bag, then keep your eyes peeled. They do custom designed t-shirts, jackets and jeans all with our inner-rockstar in mind! I’m sure if you want it done, Lee could do it for you. We really can’t wait to be working on this one! Alternative fashion is a true love of mine and the more unique and rock’n’rebel, the better!!
So there you have it. Another little insight into my mixed bag of inspirations and passions!

So, I guess a lot of people wonder “Why photograph alternative women?”
Let me answer that in a simple, yet convoluted way. For me (and for many other artists out there) Women are just amazing to look at. They have curves, shapes, textures, shadows and sometimes ink. They are moving works of art. They have a power about them that words can’t describe. They’re confident in who they are and what they stand for. Each model I have worked with is unique and strong in their own way and I want to capture that. I can’t sing their praises enough.
Why no male models? I don’t discriminate, send them this way! In the words of U2 “I still haven’t found what I’m looking for!”
That’s all for now!
